"It looks broken," the one said.
"No it's not. It's just in pieces," replied the other.
They picked up the pieces and carried them to their secret place. Little by little, they started putting it back together. It was quite complex thing for the two girls to do. Some parts they could not figure out where they belonged, but they set them aside and promised they would find their places eventually.
Whenever they could, the girls would sneak away from their homes and go to the secret place. Over time the thing began to take on a shape.
"What about these?" one girl asked.
"Wow, those are pretty!" the other said, taking one of the two pieces from the girl. "They're so blue. And this one has some brown in it."
"But where do they go?"
"I don't know."
"Let's each keep one until we know where they go."
Time passed and eventually they only had three parts left. The two blue pieces they had kept on them and a red piece.
"I think these go here," one girl said, pressing her fingers into the front of the highest part. She placed her blue piece into the left side.
"Right, and the one with the brown goes on the other side." She placed her blue piece into the right side.
"So what about this?" asked the first girl as she held the red piece.
Neither girl could figure out where the red piece belonged. Many days they would go to the secret place and just sit and stare at the thing, trying to find the final piece's place.
"Here! It goes right here!"
"Let me try," the other said as she picked up the piece, but it would not go in.
"Well maybe it goes this way." The girl took her turn trying to fit the last piece.
They knew where it belonged, but could not figure out how to get it to fit there. Taking turns, they continued to try to find a way.
"Wait, maybe this," the first girl said while holding the piece. Taking the other girl's hand, she made it so that they were both holding the red piece.
Together they put the last piece where it belonged, and at last the thing came to life.
